Here is how the features in this guide use your browser and the information you choose to share.
Finding nearby waters
Location is requested only when you choose “Use my location.” If you allow it, your browser sends coordinates to this site’s nearby-water endpoint to calculate distances. The application does not save those coordinates to a profile or database. Hosting providers may keep ordinary request logs.
Saved waters
Bookmarks are stored in this browser’s local storage. They are not linked to an account or synced between devices. Removing a bookmark updates that list; clearing this site’s browser data removes the saved list.
Maps and other websites
Interactive maps and embedded water maps request content from OpenStreetMap. Those services receive the information normally sent with web requests, such as your IP address and browser details. Following an official-source, USGS, Google Maps, or publisher link takes you to that organization’s website.
Affiliate links
Amazon links include our affiliate tag. If you follow one, Amazon’s privacy and cookie policies apply on its site.
Mystery Tackle Box links use Awin to attribute referrals. Its banner images load from Awin, which receives ordinary request information such as your IP address and browser details when an image loads. Clicking an offer passes through Awin before reaching the retailer. Our links include a label for the placement on this site, not your search text or location. Awin and the retailer apply their own privacy and cookie policies. These advertiser requests are separate from our optional Google Analytics and PostHog tracking.
Optional analytics
We ask before loading Google Analytics and PostHog. If you allow it, they measure page views and actions such as filtering waters, saving a water, selecting a map marker, and following an external link. Events can include anonymous browser identifiers, device details, the page path, public water names or identifiers, and result counts. For gear recommendations, events can also record a visible offer, the product, retailer, banner, and placement on the page.
We exclude search text, precise location, and URL query strings from the events we send. Session recording, advertising personalization, and account profiles are disabled. Analytics providers receive your IP address when your browser connects to their services.
Your choice is stored in this browser. Use “Analytics preferences” in the footer to change it. Declining stops further analytics collection and clears this site’s analytics identifiers; it does not erase events already received by a provider. Maps and saved waters work with either choice.
