Choose a comfortable bank
Start with the walk from parking and the room available to cast. For a first outing, those details matter more than a promising stocking count. Look up toilets and other facilities your group will need.

Bring enough tackle to keep fishing
A familiar rod, a few spare rigs, and a hook-removal tool cover much of the day’s practical work. Add drinking water, sun protection, weather-appropriate layers, and a bag for used line and rubbish.
Practice the cast before heading to the bank. Pack the tackle allowed at your chosen water, and keep the items you’ll reach for most together.
Leave while everyone still wants another trip
Keep the first session short enough to enjoy. Leave time for untangling line, watching the float, and taking a break. Catching a fish is a bonus, not a deadline.
Save another nearby water before leaving home. If wind or crowds make the first spot awkward, you’ll have an option whose entrance you have already looked up.
