Pequest supplies New Jersey’s rainbow trout

Pequest raises rainbow trout for the state’s stocking program. The hatchery summaries are useful when you want to understand production and the program’s history.

For a trip to a particular water, move from the hatchery summary to the seasonal stocking schedule. That is where to look for planned destinations and dates.

Why older articles mention other trout

According to the state’s stocking summaries, Pequest has raised and stocked only rainbow trout since 2015. The brown trout announced for New Jersey in 2026 came from Pennsylvania.

Keep those two sources separate when researching a species. A brown trout announcement does not describe what Pequest is raising.

Make a visit part of the day

Pequest’s main entrance is on Route 46 in Warren County. Open the official visitor page for current hours, directions, accessibility information, and activities before setting out.

If fishing is also on the plan, save a Pequest River guide and choose its access independently. Allow time for the visit instead of trying to fit it around a rushed fishing stop.
