Look beyond the trout calendar

Hackettstown supports New Jersey’s warmwater and coolwater fish programs. Its work covers species and destinations beyond the Pequest trout schedule.

Start with the species you’re interested in, then follow the state’s stocking information to the relevant hatchery record. Pay attention to whether the figures describe hatchery production or fish released into named waters.

Plan a catfish trip around its own records

A pond can offer several kinds of fishing. Use a catfish record for a catfish stocking date; a trout row at the same pond answers a different question.

Find a public entrance and check its hours before planning an evening session. Then read a dated local report for observations from that area.

Follow the species to the source

The state’s freshwater stocking pages are the starting point for researching salmon, walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, and hybrid striped bass. Save the page for your target species with the water you plan to visit.

When the published record gives no release date, there is no date to plan around yet. Use the available water information and return to the official source for updates.
